Reading FC have emerged as the most backed team to secure promotion from League One this season, according to recent betting figures.

The Royals’ odds have been dramatically cut from 50/1 to 16/1 following a strong run of form, with over half (52%) of bets placed this week predicting they will return to the Championship for the first time since 2023.

Leam Richardson’s side currently occupy the final play-off position and have been in impressive form, ranking third in the League One form table over the last ten games. Their consistency has clearly caught the eye of punters, who are confident the Royals can maintain their promotion push.

Reading travel to Huddersfield Town on Friday, where they are 7/2 underdogs. A win could help solidify their top-six standing and strengthen their bid for a return to the second tier.

Other clubs in the promotion betting market include Bolton (7/4, 36%), Stockport (5/2, 29%), and Bradford City (4/1, 20%), with Reading’s surge in backing reflecting both their form and growing momentum.

Chris Rogers, a spokesman for Oddschecker, commented: “Bettors have sided with Reading this week as a typically competitive League One promotion race heats up. The Royals’ odds have been slashed from 50/1 into 16/1 following a strong run of form.

“With 52% of bets placed, Leam Richardson’s side were the most backed team to win promotion this week. Reading travel to Huddersfield tomorrow as the 7/2 underdogs knowing a win could cement their position in the top six.”
