The takeover process at Reading Football Club is still ongoing as former Wycombe Wanderers chairman Rob Cohuig leads the way to purchase the club from Dai Yongge.
Couhig, who was chairman at Wycombe for five years, is attempting to buy the club with consortium Chiron Sports Group.
The American businessman became a controversial figure among Royals fans back in March when he tried to purchase Reading’s Bearwood Park training ground while still at Wycombe.
However, just weeks after those plans were made public, Wycombe withdrew their interest after it became apparent that permission would only grant the use of the training ground to Reading Football Club.
Reading Today understands that Couhig and Chiron Sports are in advanced negotiations over the purchase of the club from Dai Yongge, but a deal is yet to be complete.
They need to prove to the EFL (English Football League) that they have the required funds to buy the club and operate it for at least two years.
Final terms of the sale and payment structures then need to be agreed between the consortium and current owner Dai Yongge.
Sources close to the club have told Reading Today that it is likely that Couhig will be keen to cut costs at the club, particularly due to the expensive operating costs of Bearwood Park.
It is also believed that Couhig has already been introduced to manager Ruben Selles, playing staff and the players at the training ground despite a deal not yet being finalised.
The 2024/25 League One season is fast approaching with the club now facing a race against time to get any deal over the line before the new campaign starts.
Reading kick off the new season with a tough away trip to recently relegated Birmingham City on Saturday, August 10.
