Reading FC midfielder John Swift has left the club to sign for West Bromwich Albion

In a statement released by Reading last week that listed the players being released by the club at the end of their contracts, they stated that Swift was one of five first-team players to be offered new deals by the club.

However, the midfielder has opted not to extend his stay with the club and has joined West Brom.

Swift has been linked with several clubs during his time at Reading after his impressive performances including Sheffield United when they were plying their trade in the Premier League.

However, it now appears that Reading will lose one of their top talents without recouping a transfer fee.

Swift made an excellent start to the campaign last season and finished with 11 goals and 13 assists from 38 games.

The 26-year-old has made 187 league appearances during his time in Berkshire across six seasons, scoring 31 times.

West Brom endured a disappointing season as they failed to win back instant promotion to the Premier League in a campaign that saw their promotion hopes fade away in the second-half of 2021/22.

They eventually finished in 10th position under Steve Bruce after the former Newcastle manager took over from Valrian Ismael who was sacked as Albion boss when the club were fifth in the Championship.
