Reading FC are facing more defensive injury issues after Noel Hunt confirmed the latest player who will be spending time on the sideline.
Centre-back Derrick Williams, who joined the club on a two-year deal in the summer, have suffered a hamstring injury and will be missing for around five weeks.
The 32-year-old has impressed fans with some immense performances since joining the Royals in the summer transfer window and looks to be a shrewd addition to the squad.
Williams has huge experience in the EFL having made 111 league appearances for Bristol City and 138 league appearances in the Championship and League One for Blackburn Rovers.
He then joined DC United in the MLS and then joined Atlanta United last season before he made the move back to England in the summer to sign for Noel Hunt’s side.
Speaking to Royals TV, Hunt said: “He wanted to stay on for the last 10 minutes of the Orient game, you could see with his blocks and tackles in the last minute how important he was.
“But he’s picked up a hamstring injury so he will miss probably the next four to five weeks depending on how he recovers so that’s a blow for us.”
Reading are also still missing centre-back Paudie O’Connor who is yet to make a competitive appearance for the Royals since joining on a four-year deal from Lincoln City in the summer.
Hunt also gave more injury updates on the squad following their EFL Cup exit to Wrexham on Tuesday night.
He continued: “Andre (Garcia) picked up a groin injury so we’re hoping it’s not too bad but it’s something that looks like it will keep him out for this weekend at least.
“We will see how Matt (Ritchie) gets through this week. If we have him, brilliant, but if we don’t then we have to leave it a week and not push him because we don’t want to lose him for a long period of time.
“I will never put players’ health or situation at risk over the game. If we feel it’s too much of a high risk we won’t put that situation on the line for three points.
“When we can prevent risk with them missing a game or two instead of four or five, it’s a calculated one we have to make.
