Reading FC CEO Joe Jacobson and Director of Recruitment Brian Carey gave their thoughts to fans in a Q&A session at the Purple Turtle.
The pair were asked questions by the fans in the audience as they opened up on the transfer window, behind the scenes at the club, life under new ownership and more.
Speaking on the current transfer window, Jacobson said: “Some teams will go above and beyond and spend big fees on transfers and wages.
“We’re in the market where we believe we should be in, competing against teams. I don’t think it has shocked us and had too much of an effect on us.
“We’ve got our targets and they move around the whole time, the market continuously changes.
“I go into Brian’s office and constantly, every day there are different names on the board every single day.
“The takeover happened in the middle of May so we were already two or three months behind ideally what we wanted to plan for so we’re almost playing catch up this summer but in future we want to be planning two or three windows ahead.”
Carey was also asked about the loan signing of striker Mark O’Mahony and whether he will be the man to lead the line for the Royals this season.
He said: “Yes, Mark has come in as a nine. We haven’t seen the best of him yet. He will start the season, he’s a good young striker and will lead the line for us this season.”
