READING TODAY understands that Reading FC has paid a portion of its outstanding HMRC tax bill.
The Royals have been under significant financial pressure in the last few years which has seen them punished by the EFL.
The club has been dealt two separate points deductions from the EFL, the latest of which saw them relegated from the Championship last season after they were docked six points.
Reading has also been under a transfer embargo for the previous two summers which has limited them to only signing free agents and loan players.
The Royals were served a winding up petition from HMRC over unpaid tax bills last month. It appears that the Royals still need to pay the remainder of the bill in order to be able to sign players.
Reading remained on the EFL’s embargo service for HMRC Reporting, non payment of loan wages and breaching profit and sustainability rules. However, the latter two embargoes were lifted on Thursday.
The club are hoping to appoint Ruben Selles as their new manager and are awaiting approval on his work visa application.
Reading also have some new additions in the pipeline, including Theo Walcott and Harvey Knibbs who are hoping to join the club in the coming weeks.
Pressure remains on club owner Dai Yongge to sell the club after fans formed protest group ‘Sell Before We Dai’ to try and force a change in ownership after frustrations at repeated financial sanctions.
