THE READING Business Improvement District has released a new map of places to eat and drink in Reading.
The map lists more than 140 locations in Reading where visitors and residents alike can try a range of cuisines from around the world, including fast food, takeaways, speciality dining, and world foods.
It also features illustrations of some of the town’s most iconic venues and restaurants, including The Purple Turtle, The Roseate’s Reading Room, The Blagrave Arms, The Allied Arms, Sweeney & Todd, and Bill’s.
It also signposts a number of places to stay with accommodation spots throughout the town.
Reading’s Business Improvement District is an initiative which sees organisations across town supported through a whole range of services.
This includes deep cleaning of public spaces, in-house wardens and patrols to help keep the town safe, training and instruction services for organisations, and a number of events such as the Christmas lights switch-on and the recent Gaia exhibition.
The BID has been operating in Reading for 16 years, now reaching the end of its fourth contracted term in the town.
While its contract finishes in March 2024, it has begun consulting with stakeholders to extend the contract for its fifth five-year term.
Since its introduction to central Reading in 2007, the scheme has also been expanded to include the Abbey Quarter, and works with a number of other organisations throughout, including PubWatch.
It has also worked with Thames Valley Police, Reading Borough Council, and voluntary sector partners to provide vital support to police, NHS, and medical organisations, including providing further CCTV operators and medical support through First Stop.
