READING Buses is holding the latest of its regular open days, bringing a day of family fun to the town centre.

On Sunday, June 25, the travel operator will once again open up its depot in Great Knollys Street for events and stalls in aid of its charity of the year, the Royal Berks Charity.

The event will feature the rainbow line-up made up of buses from the fleet, as well as vintage buses, a ride-through bus wash, and attractions such as the classic coconut shy, hook-a-duck, and skittles.

It will also see a range of stalls selling barbecue food with vegetarian options, curry and samosas, candy floss, strawberries and cream, ice creams, and soft drinks.

Reading Buses will also offer tours of the control room and workshops, as well as an open-top bus tour, with stalls offering memorabilia from a number of local operators.

A free shuttle bus will be available from Friar Street, Station Road, and Blagrave Street every 20 minutes to bring attendees to and from the event between 10.30am-4pm.

Robert Williams, Reading Buses’ chief executive officer, said: “I am thrilled to be able to confirm that the Open Day will return once again to help raise money for the Royal Berks Charity.

“The day is always super popular with hundreds if not thousands of Reading residents, and guests from elsewhere, enjoying a peek behind the scenes of what we do, as well as enjoying all the amazing activities and food on offer.

“We will have our bus rainbow in place again with the opportunity for people to sit in the drivers’ cabs – as well as the usual displays of heritage buses and bus memorabilia.”

He continued: “We encourage everyone to put Sunday June 25 in their diaries and come on down between 11am and 4pm for a day of fun – there will be an event created on Facebook as a reminder.”

The open day is free to attend, taking place at the Reading Buses depot, Great Knollys Street, from 11am-4pm.

The Royal Berks Charity provides support for the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust through fundraising and donations, which helps the hospital in a wide range of different ways.
