Two sisters who completed a series of charity swims in memory of their younger sibling have been put forward for the Fundraiser of the Year award.

Hayley Brant and Helen Smith took to the water in aid of the British Heart Foundation (BHF) after their younger sister Heather died suddenly in 2009 of an undiagnosed heart condition.

Heather was just 36.

“Her sudden death threw their entire family into absolute turmoil,” said their nominator.

The pair’s water fundraisers in Heather’s memory have amassed £25,000 for BHF since 2017.

They swam the English Channel as a duo, while Hayley has crossed it solo.

“Lake swims, ice swims, Loch Ness, a 24-hour swim, and Manhattan to come. All funded by themselves,” said their nominator.

“Truly humble, selfless individuals,” they added.

“I know Hayley also does other charity work. Both working full-time. Just love them to get recognition for this journey. So very proud of them.”

The sisters, who were invited to BHF’s new research institute to see where some of their donations had gone, also raised £2,500 for suicide prevention charity Papyrus UK.
