Adam Jacobs, owner of the family-owned Reading jewellers Jacobs the Jewellers in Kings Road, Reading, is a former award winner and now a sponsor.
He told guests at a reception hosted by the mayor of Reading: “It is fantastic to be involved in the Pride of Reading Awards which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year which is a tribute in itself.”
He said it was good to have the opportunity to support the “awards’ great work over the past 19 years”.
In 2017, Adam’s third-generation company scooped the Business in Action Award for Reading businesses with fewer than 50 employees in recognition of the “outstanding contribution and fundraising” Jacobs the Jewellers had carried out in the Reading community over the years.
He said winning had inspired him to get more involved and in 2023, with co-sponsors the legendary Purple Turtle, a new category was launched with Putting Reading on the Map.
He was delighted the award was won jointly by Reading University and Reading Football Club.
Their climate change initiative, of launching a kit with ‘warming stripes’ on the sleeves showing how annual average temperatures have risen in Berkshire over the club’s 151-year history, kicked off a global climate conversation.
Adam, whose jewellers celebrates 76 years this year, said: “I am delighted to be part of something that makes Reading a great place to live.”
He said he thought the way the awards linked businesses, the council, charities and communities was unique.
