Community Event of the Year, Billie Bachra and Spencers Wood Repair Cafe, sponsor Kingdom Rooms.
A group of 25 volunteers who meet monthly at Lambs Lane Primary School provide free repair services and advice to a wide demographic from the local community, said its nominator for a Pride of Reading award.
Spencers Wood Repair Café, formed two years ago by Billie Bracha, has been put forward for the Community Event of the Year.
Their nominator said the cafe has welcomed over 600 visitors and examined 850 broken household items with a 69 per cent repair success rate.
“As well as repairs, the cafe provides the perfect venue for all members of the community to expand their social network,” they added.
It also has a team of people cutting wood and creating bird box kits for local schools and has run eight workshops and built 140 bird boxes, with six more workshops planned this term.
The Community Event of the Year is sponsored by Kingdom Rooms and looks for people who have worked tirelessly to ensure the quality of the event or programme has left a lasting mark on our community.
