Community Champion, Mary Dodds, sponsor Reading Football Club
A woman who started a local Motor Neurone Disease Association group after the death of her husband from the illness has been dubbed “awesome” for her dedication.
Mary Dodds formed the Reading and West Berks group “many years ago to give people suffering from MND, and their relatives and friends, a chance to meet others in the same boat, as well as providing help, support and comfort in abundance.
“From very humble beginnings the group is now a major part of local MND sufferers’ lives and Mary is at the forefront of everything,” said her nominator for the Community Champion award.
“She is constantly doing work for this amazing charity, always making sure everyone is looked after, arranging events throughout the year to bring in much-needed funding and always with a lovely smile on her face.” they added.
“I have been involved with the local MNDA charity for the past couple of years as one of the organisers of the Ray of Hope charity day and seeing first hand the commitment and dedication that Mary gives every day is just phenomenal.
“I really believe that Mary deserves nominating because she is just awesome. Nothing, however big or small, is too much trouble and the work she puts in on a daily basis to make sure others are helped is truly amazing,” they said.
“It is an honour for me to nominate Mary and I am extremely proud to call her a friend.”
The Community Champion award is sponsored by Reading Football Club.
