Volunteer of the Year, Rob Phillips of Caversham AFC, sponsor AB Walker
Caversham AFC’s chairman Rob Phillips, who has been put forward for the Volunteer of the Year award, “has worked tirelessly to lead the transformation of the club”.
His nominator added he had “ensured we are fully embedded in the Caversham community and to deliver on our vision of offering fun, safe and engaging football to all children.
“During his tenure, we have been recognised by the FA as a 3* club (the highest possible recognition) and we have mixed and girls football teams in every year group from U5 to U18,” they said.
Caversham AFC is the largest grassroots youth football club in Reading, with almost 800 players and more than 180 coaches and other volunteers.
For three years Rob “has faithfully served and led as chairman. After devoting a huge part of his life to the club, he will be passing on the baton to a new chair in September but deserves total recognition for his efforts in positively impacting the lives of hundreds of children and their families across the area,” added his nominator.
“We are a fully inclusive, volunteer-run club that offers footballing opportunities to all children. We make football very affordable for everyone and even offer financial support in cases of hardship.
“The entire Caversham community is behind the club including the many businesses that support it.”
The Volunteer/s of the Year award is sponsored by local, independent family-run funeral directors AB Walker.
