An organisation offering alternative education provision for young people over 16 in Reading has been put forward for School of the Year by parents who are “forever indebted” for what they have done for their young son.

New Meaning Training supports young adults who find mainstream colleges challenging, said their nominator who added they felt the progress they son had made was like he was “winning gold medals”.

They added: “They encourage the young students to build their confidence and grow as a person.

“My son, who is autistic, started in October 2022 after only being at a mainstream college for a couple of weeks, which he found very overwhelming.

“At New Meaning they’ve taken that overwhelming feeling away and made him feel very safe. He’s absolutely flourished whilst being there,” they said.

Their son has since passed his driving test, learned to dive, and has completed a boat handling course.

“These all may seem ‘normal’ achievements to most people but to us they are like he’s winning Olympic gold medals, to see how far he has come with their support is beyond words,” they said.

“We cannot thank them all enough, and will be forever indebted to them for what they have done for our son, and for us. We have hope for his future and it’s all down to the team at New Meaning.
