A youth support group who “do some really valuable work with local teenagers” has been nominated for Charity of the Year, sponsored by international recruitment company Roc Search.
Their nominator said: “Berkshire Youth, with the support of Tilehurst Parish Council, continuously strive to improve what’s on offer around here for young people.
“They launched a brand-new youth club last autumn, which is very popular and well-attended. They even took a group of members to the last Reading FC match of the season for free.”
The charity also works with the Reading FC Community Trust to provide free football sessions at the Cotswold Sports Centre every week during term time.
“Mindful that families have less disposable income at the moment, they also work with MNR Coaching to offer free sports sessions in local parks during the school holidays,” said the nominator.
The charity also provides “a reassuring presence” locally through youth worker Jessica, and volunteers, meeting up with young people in parks and checking in with local community members such as shopkeepers, they added.
Jessica and her volunteers also supported the Tilehurst Litter Pickers on their litter pick around Tilehurst.
“They do some really valuable work with local teenagers, especially in Tilehurst where I live,” said the nominator.
“I’d love the hard-working team at Berkshire Youth to be considered for this award. They are always looking for volunteers and donations to support their work and I really think publicity through the Pride of Reading Awards would help with this.
“I’d like to mention their team, headed up by Sarah Emery, who are all brilliant – they are all so friendly and engaging, and are all passionate about the work they do for the community.”
