3.30pm update – Murder investigation launched after two deaths in Pangbourne
AN INVESTIGATION has been launched into the death of person who died on the railway in Pangbourne last night.
British Transport Police said they were called to the West Berkshire station just after 6pm, following reports of a fatality.
It followed an incident at the junction of Flowers Hill and Tidmarsh Road, in which a woman died after being involved in a vehicle collision.
It is thought the two incidents are linked, but this has not been confirmed.
Following the incident on the railway, British Transport Police closed all four railway lines that run through the village.
This added to the disruption caused by heavy rain and flooding.
While some lines have reopened, Pangbourne Station remains closed today to allow the investigation – now headed by Thames Valley Police – to continue.
A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: “Officers were called to the line near Pangbourne railway station at 6.11pm on Thursday. January 4, to reports of a casualty on the tracks. Paramedics also attended and a person was pronounced dead at the scene.
“British Transport Police are working closely with Thames Valley Police to establish the circumstances leading up to their death.”
Tidmarsh Road has reopened to traffic. However, specialist search teams are working on a property in Flower Hill.
In a statement posted last night, Thames Valley Police said: “Our officers are currently in Pangbourne dealing with two incidents.
“Road closures are in place on the A340 at the Flowers Hill and Tidmarsh Road junction following a collision involving a vehicle.
“A woman received medical treatment at the scene but sadly died.
“There has also been an incident on the railway line at Pangbourne Station.
“The exact circumstances of these incidents is currently unclear, but we will provide an update when we are in a position to do so.”
