POETS’ Cafe is returning to Reading this week for its regular celebration of verse.
The event welcomes local poets as well as guest performers in a monthly open-mic showcase.
August’s edition will see returning hosts Vic Pickup and Katherine Meehan joined by American-born poet, critic, and academic Carrie Etter.
Etter’s work has been selected for the Poetry Society website, as well as published in The New Statesman, The Times Literary Supplement, and Poetry Review.
This year she also launched her own press, Fox and Star Books, which seeks to publish underrepresented poets.
She won a London Awards for Art and Performance award in 2010 for her collection The Tethers, and was shortlisted for the Ted Hughes Awards for her collection Imagined Sons.
This month’s event is a special ‘Covers’ edition, with attending readers invited to share poems by other writers.
Poets’ Cafe returns to South Street Arts Centre on Friday, August 8, and again on the second Friday of each month.
