LOCAL musician Peter Doyle is set to perform at an event in central Reading this weekend, for which he has composed an original song, Ode to Reading.

He is taking to the stage at Party on the Hill with the song, which explores the history of the town and celebrates its diverse culture and rich history.

He’ll be joined by the likes of Dionne Williams, Reading Community Gospel Choir, Beatroots, Reading All Steel Pan Orchestra, Reading Youth Orchestra, and Gold Dust DJs.

The event will also play host to workshops, giveaways, and the makers and indie markets.

Ahead of the event, he said: “I have lived in Reading all my life, and now working as a musician, I have the pleasure of being involved with a wide range of amazing local talent that will be showcased across the two stages at Party on the Hill.

“When the idea came about to compose a celebratory song for our town, I wanted to compose something that Reading can sing along to, and to feel inspired by.

“Reading has always been famed for the three B’s – the industries of biscuits, beer, and bulbs.

He explained: “Now as the home of Shinfield Studios, the largest film and TV studio in the UK, along with the world-famous Reading Festival and Hollywood favourites Kate Winslet and Ricky Gervais, the ‘Reading Town Song’ praises a new age that we are moving into that I call the three M’s for Reading – music, movies and media.

“It’s an exciting time for Reading, and the regeneration of Station Hill represents a new gateway into the town where you can feel optimistic about the future.

“Myself, Dionne Williams and the Reading Gospel choir hope that after performing the ‘Reading Town Song’ at Party on the Hill we may then get the chance to record it officially.

“I would love for our local pool of extremely talented musicians to be moved to create their own work, inspired by Reading, and who knows, maybe it could become an annual competition.”

Party on the Hill takes place at Station Hill on Saturday, June 21.
