THE MEDICAL director in the south east is urging members of the public to make sure they have their prescriptions in order ahead of the bank holiday this weekend.
Pharmacies around the country will be closed on Monday, May 27, though some will be open limited hours, making it difficult for some to access medicine at short notice.
Waiting until the weekend to access services causes further pressure for the NHS, including the use of the NHS 111 system, which also sees increases in calls for urgent repeat prescriptions.
Those who take regular medication and are due a repeat prescription around the weekend are urged to request to visit their practises or make arrangements via the NHS app as soon as possible.
Repeat prescriptions can be ordered using online services through the app or via GP websites, and appointments can also be managed through the app.
Those without access to online services can request prescriptions over the pgone.
Vaughan Lewis, NHS Medical Director for the South East said: “Keeping your medicine cabinets stocked, knowing when your GP practice is open, and planning for repeat prescriptions that are due will ensure you can make the most of the bank holiday weekend.
“Running out of your usual medication can have serious consequences, especially if you use them to control a heart condition, breathing problems or have a health condition such as diabetes”.
