AN MP in Reading has celebrated improvements which are set to be made to late-night travel services between the town and London.
Yuan Yang, MP for Earley and Woodley, has welcomed changes to train services between Reading and London following a joint campaign headed up by her and fellow MP Peter Swallow (Bracknell).
While train links between Bracknell and Reading see services every 30 minutes until 9:21pm, and hourly from then, changes in services will see trains from London Waterloo run all the way through to Reading until 10:50pm, and to Wokingham until just before midnight.
It represents an extension of the half-hourly services until the very end of the day
Yuan Yang wrote to Minister of State for Transport Lord Peter Hendy in December, calling for the change after SWR was nationalised.
Following the announcement, Ms Yangsaid: “In December, I wrote to Lord Hendy to ask for improvement to the late-night timetable, because many residents living in Earley and Woodley use the Reading to London Waterloo line to commute, or to go out for the evening.
“I’m glad to see that South Western Railway has now introduced half-hourly night services following letters from myself and Peter Swallow MP in Bracknell.
“Combined with the rail fare freezes that will save travellers as much as £300, this means that we have much more flexibility in when and how we travel on one of the most widely-used routes in the area.”
