THE NATIONAL Health Service has announced that more than five million COVID-19 vaccinations have been administered in the Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, and Oxfordshire area.
The NHS BOB Integrated Care Board, which serves the three counties, reached the milestone on jabs on October 11, by when it had delivered 5,004,202 vaccines.
The vaccination efforts saw and continue to see volunteers, community groups, council, and partner organisation working at vaccination centres, including sports centres, libraries, and places of worship across the counties from December 2020.
It forms part of the 149 million vaccines administered by NHS staff in the UK, and more than 86 million vaccination appointments booked through the national online booking system in two years.
Further vaccinations are being rolled out in autumn for eligible residents, including those aged 65 and over or in clinical risk groups, as well as frontline health and social workers, and residents in care homes for older adults.
Rachael Corser, Chief Nursing Officer at BOB Integrated Care Board said: “Reaching five million vaccines is a fantastic milestone and a testament to the collective efforts of all partners across the BOB area.
“It is a great example of what can be achieved through collaborative working across our health and care services with the amazing support of our staff, communities and volunteers.
“Our current goal is to vaccinate those most at risk this winter against flu and COVID-19 – so when you are invited for your seasonal vaccines, please book as soon as you can. The more people vaccinated the better all our defences.”
