THE MET Office has issued a yellow weather warning through Monday, September 2.
Heavy rain and thunderstorms were forecast across much of the UK, stretching from the southernmost coast of England to as far as Edinburgh.
From yesterday evening (Sunday, September 1) sustained heavy showers are expected to continue moving east across the UK, with most affected expecting up to 40mm of rain in less than an hour.
Some locations are expected to see as much as 80mm of rain, including lightning strikes and possible flooding.
While the warning states that many places will miss the worst of the weather, residents should be prepared for power cuts in some regions, especially where there are flash floods.
While Reading was not part of the weather warning for the evening of Sunday, September 2, it is included in the warning for the today, September 2.
Residents are reminded check if they are at risk of flooding and to make sure to check travel conditions before embarking.
The warning from the Met Office reads: “On Monday, areas of heavy showers and thunderstorms are likely to be ongoing from overnight and expected to continue to affect parts of the UK through the day.
“The focus for thunderstorms and impacts is expected to gradually move east later in the day. The extent of these thunderstorms remains very uncertain and whilst many places will miss them, some places may see 30 to 40 mm of rain fall in less than an hour and perhaps over 60-80 mm in one or two places.
“Frequent lightning strikes and hail will be additional hazards.”
