POLICE have sealed off part of Reading town centre this evening following an assault.
A man has been taken to hospital for treatment, where he remains at the time.
A 34-year-old man from Reading has been arrested on suspicion of GBH Section 18 wounding with intent.
He remains in police custody.
Reports of a police presence in Market Place were received around 3.30pm on Monday, December 19.
The cordon covers the whole of Market Place Square and some of the path which runs between the square and the businesses on the west side.
Bus routes running through Market Square are currently unaffected as the road is not blocked.
Police on the scene asked the public to stay away from the area while they conduct their investigation.
A spokesperson from Thames Valley Police said: “An investigation is ongoing and members of the public will see an increased police presence while we carry out our enquiries.”
