A MAN has been sentenced to a year in prison following a string offences including theft, threatening behaviour, and weapons offences.
Hamza Zeyadi, aged 47 and of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to two counts of theft from a shop as well as a count each of theft from the person of another, theft by finding, handling stolen goods, using threating/abusive with intent to cause fear, and possession of a knife in a public place.
At the same hearing, on February 23 at Reading Magistrates’ Court, Zeyadi was sentenced to 52 weeks’ imprisonment.
It follows a number of incidents beginning late last year, when, at around 4am on December 13 , Zeyadi stole a wallet from a vehicle on Suffolk Road, Reading, and subsequently used the bank cards inside it.
Then, at around 8.50pm on January 2 this year, Zeyadi stole alcohol worth £40 on Deacon Way, Tilehurst.
Later that day at around 9pm, Zeyadi was caught shoplifting food items worth £23.65 at Tesco Express on Crown Colonnade.
A month later, on February 4, Zeyadi stole alcohol and food items worth £20 from Co-Op on Oxford Road.
Then at around 11.10pm on February 19, he was found to be in possession of a 20.5cm kitchen knife.
He was subsequently arrested and charged the same day.
Investigating officer, PC Matthew Hurst of the West Reading Neighboured Police Team said: “The Tilehurst & Southcote Neighbourhood Team remains firmly committed to targeting prolific and persistent offenders within our communities.
“We will continue to take proactive action against individuals who cause harm, and anyone found carrying knives will be dealt with robustly and in line with our zero‑tolerance approach to weapon‑related crime.
“We will not hesitate to pursue further action against those who repeatedly ignore the law.”
