A man has been jailed for burglary and shoplifting offences in Reading.
Mark Harris, 36, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to burglary and two counts of shoplifting at Reading Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, September 24.
He was sentenced to 51 weeks’ imprisonment which is the maximum sentence that he could have received for the offences.
On August 21, Harris broke into an address on Henry Street and stole an Xbox games console.
Two days later, he was seen by security stealing £140 worth of boxer shorts from John Lewis in Broad Street.
He was arrested on September 2 and then charged the next day.
Investigating officer, PC Joshua Down, based at Reading police station, said: “I hope this outcome sends a strong message that burglary and shoplifting will not be tolerated and will be met with firm consequences.
“I would also like to thank our colleagues in the Neighbourhood Policing Team as this is a great result for everyone involved with the case.
“We remain committed to investigating burglaries and seek to ensure that those who profit from crime are brought to justice.”
