A Korean barbecue restaurant in Reading town centre has launched a bid to sell alcohol and host music events.
The AKA Korean BBQ Station opened in St Mary’s Butts in December 2023.
Since then, it has been trading from 12pm to 11pm each day, and is known for serving up barbecued meats, a variety of noodle dishes, sushi, Korean rolls, and traditional curries to diners.
Customers can even cook their meat themselves using hot plates provided on their tables.
The owners have recently applied to host live music, play recorded music, sell alcohol and keep on selling food until 2.30am on weekends.
They have done this in a licensing application to Reading Borough Council.
The application states the owners have applied for these activities from 11am to 2.30am on Friday and Saturday, until 1am on Thursdays, and until midnight Sunday to Wednesday.
A statutory consultation into the application has been launched.
You can respond to the consultation by emailing licensing@reading.gov.uk. The deadline for responses is Sunday, November 2.
The AKA BBQ Station took over from the short-lived Smokin’ Buns and Saucy Chicks restaurant, which lasted just months before closing in January 2022.
Prior to that, the building was occupied by Pizza Express, which was there for more than 10 years.
Pizza Express permanently closed the restaurant in St Mary’s Butts in September 2020, but retains its location at The Oracle Riverside.
