PUBS IN Reading will be serving up a new brew this Saturday in aid of charity.

Created in a partnership between the Reading Kangaroos, an Australian rules football club, and Finchampstead-based Elusive Brewing, the pale ale will raise money for Age UK.

It has been made with Australian hops and inspired by the team’s love of craft beer.

Gavin, from the Reading Kangaroos, said that he is an home brewer, and wanted to launch a commercial ale for a good cause.

The plan was decided at a committee meeting in the summer, with the aim of raising the club’s profile as well.

The Reading Kangaroos are members of the AFL London league, and include Australian, British and Irish players.

“We thought it would be a great idea to donate some proceeds from the beer to a local charity and knowing the team who run Ague UK Reading, they were very happy to get involved,” said Gavin.

“The brew day was set, and starting in the early hours of Tuesday, November 23, we brewed an Australian Pale Ale.”

The first pour will be at The Greyfriars of Reading, on Saturday

It took 130 Kilos of malts and wheat, Australian hops, and water.

“The first pour of the pale ale, Kanga-Brew, will be at The Greyfriar Of Reading,” said Gavin.

On Saturday, December 11, it will be served up at The Nag’s Head, Fox and Hounds, The Castle Tap, The Weather Station, with a charity event at The Greyfriar Of Reading.

The charity event will also include a raffle for Age UK, to win five-litre boxes of Kanga-Brew, a brewery tour at Siren Craft Brew, and some chocolate.

Matt Taylor, from Age UK Reading said: “Any funds raised from this event will go directly to the provision of services in an around Reading.

“Services such as befriending, foot-care, social activity and homeshare are all needed more than ever as we emerge from the pandemic. When people support a local charity it is a very efficient way for their donation to get to the front line of service delivery.”

The raffle is also online.
