Veteran manager Neil Warnock has claimed that he would have loved to have managed Reading Football Club during his managerial career.
The 75-year-old boss has earned a legendary reputation in the EFL having won several promotions throughout his career including Queens Park Rangers, Plymouth Argyle and Cardiff City.
Warnock had numerous fierce battles with the Royals, none more so than when his Sheffield United side were involved in a promotion fight with Reading during the 2005/06.
The Royals famously amassed 106 points to win the league as champions, while Warnock’s Blades were also promoted to the Premier League that season having finished as runners-up on 92 points.
Having recently stepped down after a short stint in the Scottish Premier League with Aberdeen, Warnock is now focusing on his upcoming stage show ‘Are You With Me?’ having claimed to have retired from football management.
Speaking with EFL expert Benjamin Bloom about his upcoming show, Warnock said: “Reading have been foes of mine for many years. It’s a pity we’r not doing a show in Reading. I’d have had to have had a dozen minders around me.
“I’ve had some great banter with Reading fans over the last few years.
“I’ve always wanted to manage Reading so it’s a pity I’ve never had the opportunity.
“Since (Sir John) Madejski was there I’ve always liked that club and I’ve had some great battles. They got 106 points and we came close when I was at Sheffield United.”
Warnock has previously stated his willingness to manage the Royals, but his return to the Championship last season with Huddersfield Town saw the Terriers secure survival at the expense of Reading.
