THAMES Valley Police is appealing for witnesses following an incident of rape in Reading.

A woman in her thirties was raped by a man known to her in Beresford Park off Beresford Road sometime between 1am and 1.30am on Friday, August 8.

The offender is described as being mixed race with a Romanian or Turkish accent; around 5ft 6ins tall, with short brown hair, and a short brown beard and moustache.

He may have been wearing a grey tracksuit and had a silver bicycle with him.

Detective Sergeant Yvonne Newman, of Berkshire West CID, said: “We understand this rape will cause concern but we do not believe there is any risk to the wider public.

“We are carrying out a thorough investigation and have put appropriate safeguards in place, including having extra police officers on patrol in Reading town centre last night and tonight. Please speak to a uniformed officer if you have any concerns.

“We also had a scene in place at Beresford Park but this now been stood down.

“Any witnesses or anyone with information should call 101 or make a report on our website, quoting reference number 43250402375.

“Or if you do not wish to speak to the police but have information you can contact Crimestoppers who will take your report anonymously by calling 0800 555 111.”
