Paul Ince admitted that he is unsure whether Thomas Ince will be able to play any part of the remainder of Reading FC’s season.

With just seven games to go and the team desperately needing wins to get out of relegation trouble after being handed a six point deduction from the EFL, the Royals will be without their top scorer.

Ince, who has netted nine league goals this season, is targeting a return for the final few games of the season. However, the Royals boss admitted that he does not know if he will feature before the end of the campaign.

“Tom (Ince) saw a specialist last night. He will have another week off and then another scan.

“He’s getting injections in his thigh.

“In an ideal world it would be good to get him back for the last two games of the season. We just don’t know.”

The Royals may also be without forwards Andy Carroll and Yakou Meite who are both facing late fitness tests to try and be available for Birmingham City on Friday.

Ince continued: “Yak (Meite) rolled his ankle against Bristol City.

“AC hasn’t trained all week because he’s got this hernia problem that is causing him so much grief at the moment. He just wants to play and fight.”

Ince confirmed that Scott Dann is back in contention to make the squad for Friday, while Amadou Mbengue is fit despite coming off against Bristol City for the final 10 minutes.

“Scott Dann trained today for the first time so that’s as good as it gets.”

Reading currently have several first-team players out injured to add to the difficulty of their task to try and stay in the Championship.

Junior Hoilett, Shane Long, Sam Hutchinson, Liam Moore, Baba Rahman, Tom McIntyre, Ovie Ejaria, Dejan Tetek and Mamadou Loum are all currently injured.
