READING FC interim manager Noel Hunt wants to ‘take the shackles off’ ahead of his spell in charge of the club to try and maintain their Championship status.
Hunt takes the reins from Paul Ince for the final five matches of the campaign with the Royals in the relegation places.
Hunt outlined his ideal footballing philosophy and described the tweaks that he is planning to make to the team tactically.
“I like to think we can change it little by little,” said Hunt.
“ It won’t be done overnight. I will probably play a bit different if I can. Not so much that it’s unfamiliar to the boys.
“The biggest thing is I want us to take the shackles off and get on the ball and play.
“They’re going to make mistakes, no doubt about it. But it’s about how we react to that.
“There are no mistakes in my world, only positive reactions and solutions. With that in mind, we go out with the best intent to win.
“The nasty sides of the game has to be nailed down and focused on.”
Having been in charge of Reading’s Under 21s side for more than a year, Hunt said he he ‘didn’t think twice’ about stepping up to coach the senior team when asked by head of football operations Mark Bowen.
Hunt continued: “When Mark told me about taking the job I didn’t think twice about it, it was ‘yes, let’s go we’ve got Burnley on Saturday.’
“I’m very privileged to be in the position I’m in, it’s an honour. I want to make the club, the fans, my family proud.
“These players have been through enough and if we dig our way out of it, it’s a massive achievement, one of the best of my career.
“We will work towards playing front foot football to give us the best chance of getting points on the board and putting ourselves in a position to be safe.
“I want us to try and play with no fear, get on the ball and do things right.
“It’s important to know what you have. At that level (under 21s) I had players to win games of football and at this level (Championship) I have players to win games of football.
“I like to be front foot, aggressive and hopefully we can get the message of that across.”
