A VISIT to Berkshire MS Therapy Centre gave The High Sheriff of Berkshire Sean Taylor an opportunity to find out how the organisation supports local people with multiple sclerosis.
The centre, a registered charity based just off the Oxford Road in Reading, provides specialised therapies such as physiotherapy and oxygen therapy, and a social space where people with MS across Berkshire and surrounding areas can relax.
It receives no NHS funding, and relies, instead, on fundraising to provide its vital services.
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a neurological condition for which there is no cure.
But therapies offered at the centre can make a huge difference to quality of life.
Following a tour of the centre and its facilities, the High Sheriff said: “I was hugely impressed with Berkshire MS Therapy Centre.
“Its range of facilities, from the highly unusual oxygen chamber, to the specialised gym, and from its therapy rooms, to the communal areas, are all highly valued by the service users.
“Even more importantly I found the atmosphere uplifting, with the care of staff and volunteers and the determination of members in managing their conditions contributing to an inspirational environment.
“I am so pleased I was able to visit.”
Claire Frew, Marketing and Engagement Officer at the Centre, said: “We were thrilled to welcome the High Sheriff to our centre.
“He took the time to meet some of our members and chat to them about their experiences.
“We are keen to spread the word about our wonderful centre so we can reach more people across the local area with MS.
“We also need to increase awareness of our need for financial support to continue our vital work.”
