FOLLOWING last year’s inaugural comedy festival from Mates Rates Comedy, Gary Delaney has been named as the first act confirmed to appear at next year’s event.
Delaney has made a multiple appearances on Mock the Week and Live at the Apollo, as well as numerous appearances at Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
He is also billed as the only comedian to get two jokes into the same list of Dave TV’s Top 10 Jokes of the Fringe, winning both Joke of the Fringe and UK Pun Champion in 2016.
He specialises in whip-smart one-liners and shows a cheeky revelry in blue material, but also displays comedic dexterity, including in stand-out show 101 Clean Jokes in 30 Minutes.
Last year, Reading’s live comedy scene saw four days of improv, stand-up, and roasts as the inaugural Indie Comedy Festival came to venues across town in a collaboration between Mates Rates, Stand and Deliver, and Laughter Craft.
The festival brought top-tier performances from Paul Foot, Marcus Brigstocke, Sara Barron, Emmanuel Sonubi, and Fiona Allen.
It also saw a Roast Battle event in Milk Bar, as well as the Reading New Comedian Competition, hosted by Reading’s own Nick Byard and Carl Richard respectively.
