READING Borough Council has shared the story of a book which has made the journey from Reading to Paris before being returned this summer.
A travel guide, Top 10 Paris, was borrowed from Battle Library, on Oxford Road, by a tourist looking to make the most of their trip to the French capital.
However it was found by an eagle-eyed passenger on the Metro Line 1, who noticed that it bore a Reading Libraries label on the inside.
The Parisienne found the contact email on the label and got in touch with Reading Borough Council to enquire about the best way to return the book to its rightful home.
The book had been successfully returned to Battle Library less than a week later, and staff contacted the book’s original lendee to reassure them that the volume had been sent back.
Cllr Adele Barnett-Ward, Reading’s Lead Councillor for Leisure and Culture, said: “It’s wonderful to see how far our library books can travel, although we do prefer they come back home eventually!
“It is is a good reminder however that our local libraries are a fantastic resource for anyone planning a summer getaway.
“From guidebooks to language learning, there’s so much on offer–just don’t forget to return what you’ve borrowed when you’re back!”
Reading Libraries encourages all holidaymakers to explore their collection of travel guides before heading abroad.
