Former Reading FC striker Sam Smith scored twice as Wrexham AFC sealed promotion from League One to the Championship.

Smith struck a double as Wrexham defeated promotion challengers Charlton Athletic 3-0 to secure a third successive promotion under the management of Reading legend Phil Parkinson.

Smith joined Wrexham from Reading in the January transfer window for around £2million and has netted seven League One goals since joining having already scored 11 for Reading.

Smooth started his senior career with Reading in 2016 and after several loan spells he left to join Cambridge United on a permanent deal.

Following two successful years with Cambridge, Smith was re-signed by Reading on a free transfer in 2023.

He netted 26 goals in 59 League One appearances before he departed to join Wrexham.
