Former Reading FC manager Ruben Selles has emerged as the favourite to land the Sheffield United job.
The Blades are set to sack Chris Wilder after they failed to gain promotion last season and it appears that Selles is their preferred candidate.
Selles was sacked last month by Hull City despite keeping the Tigers in the Championship on the final day of the season.
The Spaniard is now the favourite to get the Sheffield United job despite the Blades also showing interest in Gary O’Neill, Rob Edwards and Steve Cooper.
Selles, who joined Reading in 2022, had the Royals in the play-off places before he departed to join Hull in December 2024.
Selles was a popular figure during his time in Berkshire having guided the club through an extremely difficult and uncertain period under previous owner Dai Yongge.
He managed to avoid League One relegation in his first season in charge despite numerous off-field distractions and points deductions.
The Royals then made a push for the play-ff places last campaign, firstly under Selles and then under his replacement Noel Hunt, but missed out on the final day to Leyton Orient.
Despite being dismissed by Hull, the 42-year-old manager has shown great promise and looks set to take over at Sheffield United, who will be one of the favourites for a promotion push next season.
