Former Reading FC loanee Ryan Bertrand has called time on his professional football playing career.
Having been sent out on numerous loan spells during his time at Chelsea, Bertrand made a strong impression during his one year stint with Reading.
He made 51 appearances in all competitions, and scored once for the Royals in the 2009/10 campaign.
The season started with Brendan Rodgers as boss before he was sacked and replaced by Brian McDermott in December as the Royals enjoyed a much improved second-half to the campaign and finished in ninth.
He was part of the Reading team that earned a famous win at Anfield in the FA Cup third-round with an extra-time victory over Rafael Benitez’s Liverpool
The left-back went on to have a solid top flight career and made 57 first-team appearances for Chelsea, including making a start in the Champions League final in 2012 as they defeated Bayern Munich.
He went on to play 240 times for Southampton and finished his playing career with Leicester City.
