AFTER a wash-out last year, the launch event of this year’s Reading Children’s Festival was a sunny success.
The Forbury Fiesta is an annual celebration of fun, bringing together families, community groups, artistic creatives and storytellers for a day to remember.

Held in Forbury Gardens, the event was opened by Cllr Tony Page in one of his last events as the town’s mayor.
It included performances by Shivoham South Asian Dance performance troupe Kala The Arts, Dance Reading, Berkshire Music Trust, the Bengali Cultural Society, Theatretrain, and the Reading Chinese School.
Also performing were babyballet, the Greater Reading Nepalese Community Association, and the O’Gara School of Irish Dance, as well as The Hill Primary School.
There were drumming workshops, a storytime organised by Waterstones Reading, and a display by Apollo Gymnastics.
One of the day’s highlights was a live link-up with the Royal Comfort School in Zimbabwe, helping bring the world together.

And there was an interactive show performed across the day. Anyone For Tennis? included slow motion replays, headed line calls and live comic commentary.
The stalls included tasters for outdoor activities, as well as fun such as tombolas and crafts.
The Reading Children’s Festival continues across the month, with events taking place in libraries, arts centres, leisure centres and theatres.
