ENTRIES for this year’s Wargrave Sprint Triathlon, which takes place later in the month, are still open.
With the event taking place on Sunday, June 22, athletes will take on the challenge of a 750m swim which is then followed up by a 20k cycle before ending with a 5k run.
Organisers of the event said: “The Wargrave Sprint Triathlon is one of the highlights of the calendar for the Wargrave community.
“Cyclists, swimmers and runners from all over the local area join in for this fun and challenging race.
“Come prepared for some healthy competition, a fun environment and warm welcome from village supporters.
“Starting in Ferry Lane, Wargrave, the race begins with a splash!
A 750m swim in the Thames River, swimming up stream toward ‘the bridge’, past the Bushnell’s Marina, around a giant boy and back downstream to the jetty at Ferry Lane.Marshals on kayaks will be there to guide or support you as needed during the swim.
“Your bike will be waiting for you on the bike racks in Mill Green.
The cycle route a a scenic 20k heading out of Wargrave toward Bath Road (A4), left at the roundabout with a nice steady incline towards Burchett’s Green. Over the speedbumps and left at the roundabout onto Henley Road. Through Hurley Bottom, down Remenham Hill and left onto Wargrave Road, all the way back to Mill Green.
“The run consists of a lovely 1.25km loop. Drop your bike and head down Station Road. Marshals will guide you to a little trail mid way down the road leading to the Wargrave boat club and back up to village green again… repeat x4!
“By this point you’ll have many local supporters cheering you on as you push to the finish line… where a glass of champagne will be waiting for you!”
