AN ESTEEMED musician and composer is coming to Reading– with an environmental orchestra in tow.
Distinguished clarinettist and composer Emma Johnson MBE is set to perform at The Hexagon next month, alongside the Orchestra for the Environment.
She formed the Orchestra for the Environment to highlight not only the wonders of nature, but also the danger of ignoring the natural world.
Ms Johnson established a rare solo career as a clarinettist after she won the BBC Young Musician of the Year accolade at the age of 17.
Since then, she has released a number of successful musical projects including a collection of Brahms Sonatas with pianist John Lenehan, and Voyage.
Her compositions Songs of Celebration for clarinet and choir have been widely performed and many of her pieces and arrangements are published by Chesters, Fabers and Encore Publications.
Her charity, the Emma Johnson Music Foundation, which introduces primary school children to the instruments of the orchestra and the power of music.
In 2020 she was awarded the Cobbett Medal for services to chamber music by the Musicians’ Company Guild in the City of London. She is frequently broadcast on both radio and television.
She was made an MBE in 1996.
Emma Johnson MBE and the Orchestra for the Environment are performing at the Reading Town Hall on Tuesday, June 17.
