Thames Valley Police has confirmed that a police car and an ambulance were involved in a collision near Pell Street, Reading.
It left police officers and ambulance staff with injuries, and they have been taken to hospital for treatment.
A number of roads, including Southampton Street, Crown Street, and Pell Street, have been closed, and are not expected to open for some time.
The full statement from Thames Valley Police reads: “A number of roads are closed in central Reading after a collision.
“Southampton Street, Crown Street, and Pell Street are closed
“This follows a collision between a police vehicle and ambulance at 6.30pm.
“No other vehicles were involved in the collision. Police officers and ambulance staff have been taken to hospital.
“We would advise motorists should avoid the area as the road will be closed for some time while officers carry out enquiries at the scene.
“We thank motorists for their patience and cooperation while the road is closed.”
Reading Buses posted that: “Due to a RTC at Pell St/Southampton St we can not serve Whitley St inbound.
“Services are diverted via Christchurch Rd, Kendrick Rd, London Rd, London St. Services 5-6-11 are affected.”
