Controversial businessman Elon Musk has reportedly been ‘advised’ to put some of his fortunes into buying a club from the English Football League (EFL).
Meanwhile, the struggles at Reading FC continue under the ownership of Dai Yongge.
The Royals have been up for sale for more than a year, but there is currently no deal close to being completed while Reading are in a desperate financial situation.
Football finance expert Dr Rob Wilson believes that Musk should invest in a football side and has suggested side Cheltenham Town.
He said: “ “If Elon Musk wants to get into football club ownership, Cheltenham Town are an extraordinarily interesting prospect, particularly to the US market.
“Millions of people in the US love British culture, particularly quintessential Middle England and the Cotswolds where Cheltenham is based. You’ve got these beautiful rolling hills in the background, you’ve got the racecourse so there is a really powerful story and a powerful narrative at a club like Cheltenham. They are up and coming and could be a great prospect.”
Musk, the owner of X (formerly Twitter) has also joked on the social media platform that he had been exploring the possibility of buying Manchester United.
However, Musk has caused controversy throughout the football community with the way he has run X.
Some football clubs around Europe have decided to leave the platform, stating that Musk has promoted ‘hate speech and discrimination.
German club St Pauli announced that they had left the platform and were followed by former Bundesliga champions Werder Bremen.
