THE NHS Integrated Care Board for Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, and Berkshire, has appointed a new chief executive.

Dr Nick Broughton was selected to take the role following a year as the interim chief executive, as well as roles as chief executive at Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust and chief executive at Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust.

In his time at Southern Health, he oversaw the organisation’s upgrade to a “Good” rating from the Care Quality Committee in a three year period.

He also acted as chief executive of Somerset Partnership NHS Foundation Trust between 2016 and 2017, which similarly saw significant improvements in the quality of services provided.

Dr Broughton has been a consultant psychiatrist for more than 20 years specialising in forensic psychiatry, having held medical and clinical director roles as well as leadership positions at both a regional and national level.

He obtained his medical degree from the University of Cambridge and completed his training at St. Thomas’ Hospital, London.

Sim Scavazza, Acting Chair of the BOB ICB said “On behalf of the Board and our partners, I would like to congratulate Nick on his permanent appointment.

“I am delighted to officially welcome him as Chief Executive of the ICB; it is a real benefit to us that he has been in the role for over a year; he knows the BOB system very well, its challenges, and its strengths.

“I look forward to continuing our work together to improve the health and wellbeing of our communities.”

Dr Broughton said of his appointment: “I have greatly enjoyed my secondment to the ICB over the last 13 months and am delighted that my appointment has now been made permanent.

“I am looking forward to continuing to work with colleagues at the ICB, system partners and our wider stakeholders building on the foundations and relationships we have in place.

“Together we will help to create a system that is clinically led and delivers the best possible care and outcomes to the population we serve; within the financial resources we have available to us.”
