ONE OF Reading’s indie festivals has added yet more names to its roster, rounding out an already impressive line-up for when it returns later this year.
Down at the Abbey, which as its name would suggest takes place in the shadows of Reading’s historic Abbey Ruins, is returning in September, bringing with it even more bands and musicians.
Nebulous purveyors of jazz, electronica, and psychedelia The Comet is Coming headline on Friday, September 8, and indie rock stalwart BC Camplight headlines on Saturday, September 9.
Joining them on Friday’s bill will be AK/DK, a synth-drenched duo fresh from performances at Solfest, Portals Festival, and Reading’s own Beat Connection earlier this year.
Nuha Ruby Ra is set to sear with a neo-punk intensity, as seen performing with the likes of Self Esteem, Yard Act, and Viagra Boys, or on the stages at SXSW and Galstonbury Festivals.
Maria Uzor has been added to the line-up, with a mixture of electro-infused trip-hop and booming, bassy techno in her sets, with a debut solo album due in October.
Hatty Taylor has also been announced, bringing ethereal soundscapes which mix ambience and intensity in equal measure.
Garage rockers Jeffrey Lewis & The Voltage will bring effusive, upbeat guitar rock, alongside Pale Blue Eyes, revered folk musician Sweet Baboo, and Malawi duo Madalitso Band.
Ben Marwood, Band of Hope, Cornelia Murr, HolySMS, Kah’nya, and Ziyad Al-Samman are also on the bill.
While last year’s festival was cancelled, tickets for the event in 2022 will be valid for this year.
Taking place in the Abbey Ruins, the festival also offers a range of beer and cider from Siren Craft Brew as well as street food and cocktails in the auspicious surroundings of the remains of one of Reading’s oldest buildings.
Down at the Abbey takes place in the Abbey Ruins from Friday-Saturday, September 8-9.
Musicians will perform on two stages across the two days.
