A dessert parlour and fast food joint that was involved in the ‘burger wars’ in Reading could start selling food, drinks and desserts until midnight.
Fat Twins and Kaspas Desserts opened at the Granby Tavern in Cemetery Junction in December 2021.
The two franchises, run by Swiss Bubble Ltd, have been selling Fat Twins burgers and a range of ice cream, waffles, shakes and sweets ever since.
Now, Swiss Bubble has launched a bid to keep on selling food and soft drinks until midnight on weekends.
The company has done this in a licensing application to Reading Borough Council for Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights.
The times applied for have already appeared on the websites for Fat Twins and Kaspas.
Fat Twins was involved in the ‘Burger Wars’ of 2022, when Swiss Bubble clashed with neighbouring business Smash N Grab over a covered outdoors area that was put up without permission.
Swiss Bubble ultimately won out, with a planning application establishing the pergola being approved in July 2023.
Smash N Grab closed in January last year and was replaced with Cozze Bites, which lasted at the hut for under a year before it was replaced by Mallu Nest, which was seen open in May.
Street view imagery shows that the pergola has been reduced in size.
The licensing application for Kaspas and Fat Twins is subject to a statutory consultation.
You can take part in the consultation by emailing licensing@reading.gov.uk. The deadline for responses is Sunday, August 31.
