READING Borough Council invites residents to host street parties for the King’s coronation.
The council has announced that it will again waive road closure fees so that members of the public can set up their own street parties to celebrate the event.
Applications for street closures between Saturday-Monday, May 6-8, will not see any extra costs as the council aims to make it “as easy as possible” for residents mark the coronation.
This only applies where no main through-route or public transport routes are affected, and events on Saturday, May 6, must take place after noon.
It is also necessary that organisers consider the views of neighbours and anyone likely to be affected.
Cllr Tony Page, lead member for climate strategy and transport at the council, said: “Our invitation to communities to host their own street parties is always popular, which is why we are again choosing to waive the usual street closure fee for those who wish to apply.
“We hope as many communities will see this as a good chance to not only celebrate the King’s Coronation but to get to know their neighbours and submit an application before our 31 March deadline.”
The Council recommends that all street party organisers adhere to the latest government guidance on public events and gatherings whilst organising their events.
