COMMUNITY organisations tackling homelessness, domestic abuse, and inequality are among those receiving a share of £150,000 in grants.
Reading Borough Council has announced the recipients of its community funding from its Better Care Fund, aimed at supporting community projects improving residents’ lives.
Among the recipients are the Alliance for Cohesion and Racial Equality (ACRE), to help teach essential IT skills for accessing healthcare and promoting online safety; Berkshire Vision’s Sight Loss Support Service; and Get Berkshire Active.
Launchpad will also see funding for its wellbeing and support services for those without homes; as well as The Mustard Tree, which supports disadvantaged women; Parenting Special Children, for support to carers of SEND children in the most deprived areas of Berkshire; and Project Salama, for its programme to support those affected by trauma, abuse, migration and marginalisation.
Rounding out the recipients is Reading Gateway Church’s Parish Nurse programme; Reading Islamic Cultural Centre’s bespoke fitness classes, Reading Mencap’s Learning Disability Family Health Adviser.
Councillor Rachel Eden, Lead Councillor for Education and Public Health, said: “Staying well and getting help early is vital for residents and Reading is lucky to have so many amazing community and charity organisations who know how to work with and are trusted by our residents.
“I’m delighted that the council is able to allocate this funding to support them in helping residents who don’t know they may need some support, or know they need help but not where to get it.
“This funding will help to ensure that these organisations, that are often the first place our residents turn for help, have the resources they need to provide that support.
“The good news is that this will help people stay mentally and physically well, leading to living independently in their own homes and communities.”
