RESIDENTS campaigning for improvements to Meadway Recreation Ground have won an important step forward after presenting their petition to Reading Borough Council.
At a meeting, councillors agreed that refurbishing the Meadway Rec play area should be treated as a ‘high priority’, following support from the community and local Liberal Democrat councillors.
However, while the Council accepted the need for refurbishment, a funding plan hasn’t yet been outlined to carry out the work.
Local resident and parent Chloe Kidd, who presented the petition to the Council, said: “We are thrilled the council has finally made a commitment to refurbishing Meadway Park.
“Now we must ensure that the council secures funding, so that improvements can take place in a timely manner.”
Cllr James Moore, Liberal Democrat Councillor for Tilehurst, said: “This is a great result for residents who have worked hard to get Meadway Rec taken seriously.
“We’ll keep holding the Council to its word until the play area is properly refurbished and the community can enjoy the park it deserves.”
