A HOST of new conductors will be at Reading railway station, but they won’t be moving trains this weekend. Instead, they will be making (hopefully) sweet music.
Reading’s Aldworth Philharmonic Orchestra (APO) is holding its Beethoven on the Bridge event from 2.30pm on Saturday, July 15.
It will feature performances of the one of world’s most famous symphonies, Beethoven’s Fifth, alongside iconic marches, including Mendelssohn’s Wedding March and Berlioz’s Hungarian March from The Damnation of Faust.
All pieces will be conducted by APO Music Director Andrew Taylor.
And the programme includes opportunities for members of the public to have a go at leading the orchestra by picking up the baton and wiggling it around.
The informal event is free, and takes place on the concourse, thanks to Network Rail and GWR, who will allow people to go through the ticket barriers to hear the performance.
There is no seating, and the APO says the noises and activity of the train station are all part of the atmosphere.
The event will end by 5pm.
