Binfield Tennis Club welcomed two former professional players as they hosted their Davis Cup Day which gave their members the chance to face ex-pros on the court.
Organised by the club’s head coach, Trevor Kotchie, the club raised funds for a new initiative called ‘I Play 30’.
Former British Davis Cup players and friends to the club Danny Sapsford and James Auckland, are leading the I play 30 campaign, through Danny’s charity, Bright Ideas for Tennis.
Binfield Tennis Club were selected to take part in the I Play 30 inclusive tennis programme which focuses on providing opportunities for more people to play tennis, especially children with learning, sensory and physical disabilities.
Over the coming months Binfield Tennis Club will be hosting weekly sessions run by volunteers, and the club’s coaching team, in collaboration with King’s Academy.
The sessions are free of charge and are designed to encourage young people with SEN (special educational needs) to take part in a sport for at least 30 minutes a week.
Away from raising money on court, funds were also raised through a BBQ, raffle and cake stall with £900 raised.
The Club co-Chair, John Pascoe, thanked those taking part in the fundraising event. He said: “it was a tremendous effort for a small community club, with the emphasis on community.”
